We can agree that the human consciousness is fed by our five senses sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing. But opinion is still divided about what it is that we refer to as 'consciousness.' Is it in our brains? Is it in our body? Is it outside of us, and how does it change? Can it change?

How is it even possible that we can be conscious of having a consciousness?

Our senses form the 'gateways' to a dynamic exchange of information from the world around us. Whatever comes in via these conduits defines our consciousness. But also: our momentary state of consciousness defines how we perceive and filter what comes in.

Our life experience implicates the existence of a 'higher environment' with which we long to come into contact but cannot do so via our current senses. Why would we feel this urge to attain a 'higher consciousness if we did not already know, deep down, that such a higher environment exists?

The Universal Doctrine, the gnostic teachings of all times, states that such a higher realm of human consciousness and life exists, but our current five senses are not equipped to perceive it. So we need another form of sensory organ…

The Universal Wisdom teaches that this organ already exists within us, but we need to allow it to awaken. Then we become conscious of that higher realm, referred to as 'The Kingdom, not of this world' and the 'The Kingdom that is within you.'

We can ask ourselves the question: how can we turn our consciousness, which seems stuck in an infinite loop, into an upwardly spiralling consciousness; how do we attain 'higher consciousness?
